Mother Daughter Brunch is truly my favorite event of the entire year. It is the one time of year that I get to introduce both of my best friends to each other, my mother and my sorority sisters. I also get to introduce a member of my real family with members of my sorority family. So as I’m sure you can imagine its full of loudness, laughter, and love.
This year, we had our Mother/Daughter Brunch at the Carolina Inn. It was a very classy event with all of the mothers and daughter dressed in their Sunday best. We were served a delicious variety of delicate foods and were carefully waited on by the staff. As we sat around the long tables, mothers and daughters mingled and chatted the afternoon away.
As I sat around and watched the girls interact at the table, it suddenly became evident to me the beauty of the brunch: at the brunch you get to share with your sorority sisters a big piece of you that you have not ever gotten to share before, your mom. Your mom made you, raised you, and loved you with all her heart. She is a huge piece in each one of us and we would not be the same person we are today without her. Just by watching each mom interact, it is so evident whose daughter is theirs.
The sisterhood of Phi Beta Chi reaches far beyond the 140 sisters that attend chapter each week. It reaches its hand to all of the friends, family, and loved ones in each of the sister’s lives. It is fascinating how easily each sister can interact with each mom and love them without fully knowing them, only knowing that they are associated with someone in the sisterhood. There was a comradery between all of the guests at the brunch. In a way, we are all “mint” to be.
